i was about to buy a 96 mazda miata with 87k miles on it and my dad said no because he didnt want such an old car. and i said it has less miles on it than your car and he just said it was too old. what are the pros and cons about an old car (japanese) with only that many miles?

I bought a brand new Tundra last year and it happend to be one with drivetrain problems. With the help of a lawyer and factual data on flawed drivetrain evidence I got rid of the truck without losing money luckily. Now I drive my 12 yr. old Q45 that I've had for 5 years while looking for "another" ride. I hate buying vehicles...I have money to spend but would just rather wait until my Q explodes and its ashes evaporate before I feel the need to buy another vehicle. So to get to the point...buy a vehicle and take care of it for 7-12 years and you drastically reduce the amount of vehicles you buy in your life while saving money. This is part of the reason my grandfather has a very large estate he's 75 and has only owned 3 cars which he still has and they all run.

Have bought at least three used cars, all only 1-2 yrs old, with low mileage and factory warranty, and have been very satisfied. Was even able to get extended warranties. Saved a lot of money and the cars look good.

Buy a "slightly used" car from the previous model year or two. I've done this a couple of times and I highly recommend it to my friends and family. It's easy to find a 1-2 year old car that is in near-perfect condition with low miles, still under factory warranty at a deep discount compared to an almost identical new model.
