I recently received a bill from the LDC Collections for NJ State Surcharges. I haven't lived in the state for over 14 years. I called the number and was told that I had a ticket in 1994 and the $100 surcharge to that ticket is for 3 years, and I only paid one year because I no longer live there. I was told that it doesn't matter where I live, I'm charged. Now, 14 years later that $200 is $1847.23 because of interest and collection charges and they are going to send it to the credit bureau. Oh, and the notice is titled SEcond Notice. Only 2 notices in 14 years? Is this legal? Can they hold me responsible for driving surcharges when I don't even drive in their state?

here recently(Sept.2008) a cop in Nj wrote me a ticket for being suspended. Although I presented my current driver license, which was an out of state driver license,he claims my Nj drivers license was suspended.Since I no longer have NJ dr..license I no-longer worry-about issues in NJ.Because I have valid out-of-state driver lic... Why would this cop stoop so-low and write a ticket? I do & will go before a municpal court judge soon. Orlando in NJ/9-21-08

I don't understand the reason why the court is making profit by putting its citizens into "violation" stand in the court. Are there any other positive and more effective ways to generate budget?

Let me share my experience with you:

I got a traffic ticket, did dress well, then go to the Princeton Municipal Court in New Jersey, try to talk to the procecutor to enter a plea bargain. The procecutor was very tough to the professionals who dressed well, came from NYC or other towns, particularly the Asian Americans. The procecutor treated others e.g. white, blake, Indian, Hispanic Americans much better, let them go free or with reduced charges.

How about no illegal speed/red light cameras?
(and how about setting real speed limits)

You don't do evil to do good.
(Big city crime can be almost eliminated by ending the war on drugs.
That takes the profit out, and the entire enterprise collapses.
and how about not having the city/state infringing on the public's gun rights.)

I have a model idea.

Give all the fine revenue to a charity that has no say in law enforcment.

Second, pay the departments bonuses based on how few accidents they have instead.

The profit making motivation of law enforcment is a cancer upon it that needs to be cut away.
